DESIGN NAME:
Struthio

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Chair

INSPIRATION:
This piece is inspired in nature, particularly in the silhouette of an ostrich. 
The ostrich was originally described by Linnaeus in his 18th-century work, Systema Naturae under its current binomial name. It’s scientific name is derived from Latin, "struthio" meaning "ostrich" and "camelus" meaning "camel", alluding to its size and dry habitat.
 
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
It is a highly aesthetic piece and yet very functional. It is designed to be produced in twelve pieces that come together through assembled joinery. The shape of an ostrich was used to create a very confortable, aesthetic and light but strong piece of indoor-outdoor furniture. 
The materialization of the chair is through the wood as a resemblance to life, in contrast to the transparent acrylic wich is a cold and industrial material.
The combination between it´s shape and materials result in an elegant and avant garde piece wich makes this an unique chair.

OPERATION / INTERACTION:
The chair can be used in indoors and outdoors and have a very strong structure with no exceeding an operative weight, Maintenance includes just a regular cleaning.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project started in Guadalajara Mexico, with the first scketches in the autum of 2013, then pased to a process of technical evaluation, were lots of changes happend, trying to lower the weight, quantity of material, assure the resistance, ergonomics, etc. It was until winter when the modeling process started and then it went to the production stage to be ready for the 13th of December.
 
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
Although initially it was intended for wood cnc router production, this piece can also be produced in different materials and processes, such as plastic, carbonfiber, aluminum, etc.

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
The measures are 800mm x 600mm x 540mm.
